Car Keys & Transponders

All cars produced and sold since 1995 are legally required to be fitted with an immobiliser system.

These cars require a transponder key with an embedded electronic transponder chip to start the vehicle. When the key is turned in the ignition, the code is read and the vehicle will only start if the correct code is received. A broken key or a different key without a transponder will result in the vehicle not starting upon turning the key in the ignition.

Vehicle security is constantly improving, meaning modern cars are a lot more secure than what they would have been 15 years ago. Whilst this is great news for car owners, it can spell bad news for motorists that lose their keys, waiting for the main dealer to replace keys can be time consuming and expensive. For this reason, we have invested heavily in specialist decoding equipment that enables us to cut and program new keys for the majority of cars at the roadside.
